The club's history began in 1911 when gymnasium students in České Budějovice formed a bandy team, playing on rinks at the confluence of the Malše and Vltava rivers. Dr. Zdeněk Černý served as the first coach, manager, and player. The bandy club ended with World War I, during which several players, including Áda Schrabal, Karel Selinka, Jan Vrkoč, and Leo Feigl, became early war victims. On 3 December 1921, SK České Budějovice played its first amateur ice hockey match in Strakonice, and on 10 January 1928, AC Stadion České Budějovice was formed from the merger of Viktoria and Slovan. The club joined the top league in 1936, finishing third in its first season behind LTC Praha and AC Sparta Praha.
