House of the Dragon Codexery

Laenor Velaryon

Rider of Seasmoke and first husband of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Laenor Velaryon is the son of Lord Corlys Velaryon and Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, a dragonrider bonded to Seasmoke, and the first husband of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. He fights in the War for the Stepstones on Seasmoke beside his father. When their marriage is arranged, he and Rhaenyra agree to carry out their royal duties together while he keeps his male lover, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, but at the wedding feast Ser Criston Cole beats Joffrey to death. Rhaenyra's first three sons, Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey, are fathered by Ser Harwin Strong, with Laenor as their legal father so that they remain legitimate. Ten years on he has a new lover, Ser Qarl Correy, and to strengthen Rhaenyra's claim through a marriage to Prince Daemon, Daemon helps fake Laenor's death so that he can sail with Qarl into exile in Essos.
