Tialys
The Gallivespian spy who follows Lyra and Will into the land of the dead.
The Chevalier Tialys is a Gallivespian spy in Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass and a companion of Lyra and Will. Gallivespians are a race of small humanoid beings, about as tall as the length of a human hand, who serve as spies in Lord Asriel's army; they have poison spurs on their feet and ride specially bred dragonflies. Tialys and the Lady Salmakia spy on the Magisterium in Lyra's world, and when the Magisterium sends soldiers to capture and kill Lyra they are ordered to follow them. They first meet the children at Mrs Coulter's cave and, when Lyra and Will will not go directly to Lord Asriel, travel with them to the land of the dead, helping to bargain with the harpies. Tialys dies when attacking a cliff-ghast, having dug his spurs deep into her neck.
