Stanislaus Grumman

Stanislaus Grumman was the assumed name of Colonel John Parry, an English explorer and Royal Marines officer who became a shaman among the Yenisei tribe. He was the father of Will Parry and husband of Elaine Parry. After finding a portal to another world during a blizzard in Alaska, he traveled to Lyra Belacqua's world, where his dæmon Sayan Kötör appeared as an osprey. He underwent trepanation and studied Dust at the Berlin Academy. In The Subtle Knife, he sought the bearer of the Æsahættr, whom he found on a mountain and who turned out to be his son. Immediately after their recognition, Grumman was killed by an arrow from the witch Juta Kamainen.
