Hazbin Hotel Codexery

Hell

Seven rings, two kinds of demon, one overpopulation problem - and a hotel that wants to fix it.

Hell is the setting of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss: an overpopulated, chaotic realm divided into seven rings named for the deadly sins, ruled by the fallen angel Lucifer Morningstar with Lilith as queen and their daughter Charlie as heir. It is home to two populations - sinners, the souls of dead humans, who are confined to the top ring, Pride, and the Hellborn demons native to Hell, who can travel freely between the rings.

Background

Each ring is ruled by one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride by Lucifer, Greed by Mammon, Lust by Asmodeus, Gluttony by Beelzebub, Sloth by Belphegor, Envy by Leviathan and Wrath by Satan. Below them sit the Goetia nobility, the overlords - sinners who gained power by owning souls - and the mass of sinners, imps and hellhounds. Because Hell is overpopulated, Heaven sends its Exorcists down each year to slaughter sinners in the Extermination; Charlie's hotel is her attempt to redeem sinners instead. Hazbin Hotel is set in Pentagram City in the Pride Ring, while Helluva Boss follows the imp assassins of I.M.P. across the other rings.

The fan wiki notes that the seven rings were first revealed in the lyrics of "You Will Be Okay", that each ring has its own atmosphere - a red sky over Pride, a blue one over Lust - and that an elevator network connects them. Hell has a crude law system and even public services such as firefighters, though its society is close to a free-for-all.
