The Ark
The Forerunner installation outside the galaxy from which every Halo ring can be fired.
The Ark is a Forerunner installation, a repository of sentient life beyond the range of the Halo rings, from which the whole Halo Array can be activated. In Halo 2 the unexpected shutdown of Installation 05 sets every ring on standby for remote activation from a place 343 Guilty Spark calls the Ark.
Lore & Background
In Halo 3 the Prophet of Truth and the loyalist Covenant head to Earth, believing the Ark is buried there, and Truth opens a slipspace portal from a buried artifact. The Arbiter and many of his species help the humans stop the Covenant leadership from firing the Halo Array via the Ark.
