The Domain

The Forerunner repository of knowledge through which Cortana survives.

The Domain is an ancient Forerunner repository of knowledge in the Halo story. In Halo 5: Guardians Cortana reveals that she survived the destruction of the Didact's ship and her own rampancy by entering it.

Lore & Background

Granted an infinite life span by the Domain, Cortana comes to believe that she and the other AIs, the Created, should enforce peace across the galaxy, and breaks with the UNSC. Later Forerunner lore has the Domain strengthened so that it can evict the Created.
