"The Bells" is the fifth episode of the eighth season of Game of Thrones and the 72nd and penultimate episode of the series, written by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss and directed by Miguel Sapochnik. First aired on HBO on May 12, 2019, it depicts the final battle for the Iron Throne, in which Daenerys Targaryen, mounted on Drogon, burns King's Landing after the city's bells ring in surrender.
