Drogon

The largest of Daenerys's three dragons, and the one she rides.

Drogon is one of the three dragons hatched by Daenerys Targaryen in A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones. Illyrio Mopatis gave Daenerys three petrified dragon eggs at her wedding.

Lore & Background

After Khal Drogo's death, Daenerys burned the eggs on his funeral pyre and walked into the flames. The next morning Jorah Mormont found her unburned in the ashes with three hatched dragons.

Reader's Guide

At her wedding feast the noise and blood of Daznak's Pit draw Drogon into the arena; Daenerys climbs onto him, tames him with a whip and becomes his rider, and he flies off with her to his lair.

When the Undying try to hold Daenerys prisoner, Drogon kills them and burns their temple. After Drogon is said to have killed a child, Daenerys chains Rhaegal and Viserion, but Drogon escapes.
