Liberation of Slaver's Bay

Astapor, Yunkai and Meereen fall to the Mother of Dragons.

In the television series she negotiates with the slaver Kraznys mo Nakloz to buy the Unsullied in exchange for Drogon and takes on his translator Missandei; once the deal is done she has Drogon burn Kraznys and orders the Unsullied to kill Astapor's masters and free its slaves.

Lore & Background

Her army marches on Yunkai, which hires the Second Sons sellswords. Their lieutenant Daario Naharis, sent to kill her, brings her the heads of his commanders instead, and Daario, Jorah and Grey Worm open the city's gates. Yunkai's freed slaves hail her as mhysa, mother.

Reader's Guide

In the novels Daenerys goes to Astapor instead of returning to Pentos, frees the Unsullied, executes the Good Masters and sets up a council, then conquers Yunkai and Meereen; Yunkai later rebels and gathers forces to besiege Meereen. In the series the slaver fleets of Yunkai, Astapor and Volantis eventually attack Meereen and are burned by her three dragons.

Daenerys takes Meereen, the last city of Slaver's Bay, by provoking a slave revolt, and executes 163 masters in answer to the 163 slave children crucified along the road. When she learns that her council in Astapor has been overthrown and Yunkai has gone back to slavery, she stays in Meereen to learn to rule, where the Sons of the Harpy, a resistance of former masters, rise against her.
