Viserion

The dragon the Night King killed and raised.

Viserion is one of the three dragons that hatched on Khal Drogo's funeral pyre, named by Daenerys Targaryen after her brother Viserys. In the books he is the yellow dragon, and Daenerys locks him and Rhaegal in the catacombs of Meereen after Drogon is blamed for killing a child.

In the television series Daenerys flies her dragons beyond the Wall to rescue Jon Snow's party from the army of the dead. As the men try to escape on Drogon, the Night King throws an ice javelin and kills Viserion, and after the battle he reanimates the dragon.

Reader's Guide

At the Battle of Winterfell the Night King engages Jon and Daenerys on Viserion, and Jon is cornered by the undead dragon in the godswood until Arya Stark kills the Night King and the whole army of the dead falls with him.

The Night King rides the undead Viserion to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, where its blue fire destroys the castle and a section of the Wall, letting the White Walkers and their wights into the Seven Kingdoms.
