Viserion
From the golden heir of Targaryen to the frozen scourge of the Night King.
Viserion is one of the three great dragons hatched in the late era of Westerosi history, originally belonging to Daenerys Targaryen before being claimed by the Night King. Named for her brother Viserys, this dragon was once a symbol of hope and fire for the exiled House Targaryen. His life took a tragic turn when he was mortally wounded during the Battle beyond the Wall, only to be resurrected as an undead beast under the control of the White Walkers.

Lore & Background
The dragon's fate changed irrevocably during a skirmish beyond the Wall, where he was struck by three ice spears thrown by wights. Mortally wounded and falling from the sky, he was retrieved by the Night King, who used his magic to resurrect the beast as an undead creature. This transformation turned Viserion's scales a pale, frostbitten white and changed his breath from red-orange fire to a destructive blue flame capable of melting the magical barriers protecting Winterfell.
In Their Own Story
The sky above the frozen wasteland was choked with ash and snow when the great beast fell. Three spears of ice had pierced its flank, sending Viserion spiraling toward the icy earth below. As his life faded, a cold hand reached out from the shadows of the army of the dead. The Night King stood over the broken form, his fingers tracing the dragon's scales as blue light pulsed through the wound. With a roar that echoed like cracking glaciers, Viserion rose again, no longer breathing fire, but exhaling a chilling blue frost that turned the very air to ice.
Reader's Guide
Viserion functions as a living siege engine of immense destructive power. Originally, he operated under the telepathic bond shared between dragon and rider, responding to Daenerys's commands with loyalty and instinct. After his resurrection, this bond was severed and replaced by the Night King's absolute magical dominion. The undead dragon no longer feels pain or fear, driven solely by the will of its master to destroy life and spread cold death across Westeros. His unique ability is breathing blue fire, a supernatural energy that bypasses standard defenses. This flame is hot enough to melt the ancient magic protecting Winterfell's walls, making him the key to breaching the last line of defense against the Army of the Dead.
