Story

The opening slideshow depicts Frogger overhearing two boys fishing by a lake discussing how a princess's kiss can turn a frog into a prince. Inspired, Frogger sets out to find a princess willing to kiss him. Between stages, further slideshows show his encounters with various characters who offer advice or request his help with tasks.

Gameplay

Frogger Advance uses traditional 2D side-scrolling platforming mechanics, unlike the top-down gameplay of the original Frogger arcade game. The player's main goal is to reach the end of each stage by jumping over or attacking obstacles and enemies. A recurring frog fairy grants Frogger special abilities at predetermined points, including Super Tongue, Glide, Double Jump, and an underwater forward thrust. The game is divided into worlds, each containing three regular stages and one special stage with a boss or timed task. After each world, the player receives a grade from A+ to F− based on coins collected, hidden gems found, and lives lost. Achieving A+ grades in all worlds unlocks a special, more conclusive ending slideshow.
