Izumi Curtis is the teacher under whom Edward and Alphonse Elric advanced their alchemic training. After their mother Trisha died of a lingering illness, the brothers traveled the world to learn from her. Upon returning home from this training period, they desperately decided to attempt human transmutation to bring their mother back to life, a failed effort that resulted in Al's body disintegrating and Ed losing his left leg.
