The Encyclopedists are the original group of scientists and scholars established by Hari Seldon on Terminus to compile the Encyclopedia Galactica. They are a part of the Foundation itself. Their Board, hidebound scholars whose main concern is publishing the Encyclopedia, is overthrown by Mayor Salvor Hardin.

Lore & Background
In the story "The Encyclopedists", Lewis Pirenne is the chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees and the leader of the Encyclopedists. Terminus City's affairs are managed by its first Mayor, Salvor Hardin, under the authority of the Board. When the Board resists Hardin's efforts against the threat of conquest by the neighboring prefectures, he and his chief advisor, Yohan Lee, seize power.
