Yevon
Spira's ruling faith, built on atonement to hide the cycle of Sin.
Yevon is the religious order that dominates Spira in Final Fantasy X. Its roots lie in a war fought a thousand years before the game between Bevelle and Zanarkand. Yevon, Zanarkand's ruler, turned his people into fayth to preserve the memory of his city and made himself the core of the monster Sin, which destroyed his mind.
Lore & Background
Guided by Yevon's daughter Yunalesca, Bevelle founded a faith of atonement and sacrifice that hid the endless spiral of death in Spira's history. Yunalesca teaches summoners the Final Summoning, which brings a short reprieve called the Calm: the summoner turns a guardian into the fayth of a Final Aeon and dies in the summoning. The Final Aeon can destroy Sin, but it then becomes Yu Yevon's new vessel and the next Sin.
Under the order's ban on machina, and with Sin destroying settlements before they could grow, Spira stayed a rustic land; Bevelle, centre of Yevon's temples, and Luca were its only real cities. Yuna and her guardians break the cycle and bring the Eternal Calm. In Final Fantasy X-2 the order's secrets are exposed and its teachings declared invalid, and groups such as the New Yevon Party compete for power.
