Avalanche
The eco-terrorist group fighting Shinra so the Planet can recover.
AVALANCHE is the eco-terrorist group of Final Fantasy VII, which seeks the downfall of the Shinra Electric Power Company so that the Planet can recover from the draining of its Lifestream. Cloud Strife works with it early in the game alongside its brazen but fatherly leader Barret Wallace and the martial artist Tifa Lockhart, his childhood friend.
Lore & Background
Kitase and Nojima conceived AVALANCHE and Shinra as opposing organisations. The group's conflict with Shinra president Rufus Shinra, the covert Turks and the Mako-enhanced SOLDIER forms the main narrative of the game, and the mobile prequel Before Crisis follows the Turks' confrontations with an earlier incarnation of AVALANCHE six years before.
The game opens with AVALANCHE destroying a Shinra Mako reactor in Midgar. An attack on a second reactor goes wrong and Cloud falls into the slums. Shinra then finds the group's base and deliberately collapses part of the upper city plate in retaliation, killing many AVALANCHE members and bystanders.
