The Chroma Conclave story arc spans episodes 39 through 84 of Critical Role's first campaign, comprising a massive 46-episode run that serves as the central conflict of Vox Machina's journey. The arc begins with a catastrophic event: four ancient chromatic dragons attack Emon, the capital of Tal'Dorei, killing the Sovereign and other political figures before dividing the kingdom under their control. To survive and reclaim their home, the party must seek the Vestiges of Divergence, legendary magical items scattered across the world. Throughout these battles against the powerful dragons, the story deeply explores character backstories and personal stakes, setting the stage for future conflicts.

Lore & Background

The Chroma Conclave arc is defined by the attack of four ancient chromatic dragons on Emon, which resulted in the fall of the Sovereign and the division of Tal'Dorei. These dragons seized control of the kingdom, forcing Vox Machina to seek power beyond their current capabilities to defeat them. The party's strategy centered on finding the Vestiges of Divergence, famed and extremely powerful magical items from ages past scattered throughout the world. While the fight against the dragons goes on, smaller arcs turn to Grog and the herd that exiled him, to the last figure from Percy's past and to a strained reunion of the twins Vex and Vax with their family.
