In Their Own Story
Conker stumbled through the iron gates, his fur matted with mud and regret. The air was thick with the stench of decay and cheap ale. A skeleton in a top hat tipped his brim. 'New meat?' he cackled. Conker ignored him, his eyes fixed on the towering mausoleum ahead. Inside, the Grim Reaper sat on a throne of bones, playing solitaire. 'You're late,' the Reaper said without looking up. 'But death waits for no squirrel. Ready to dance?' Conker sighed, his tail drooping. 'I just wanted a drink,' he muttered. The Reaper laughed, a sound like grinding stones. 'We all do, lad. We all do.'
