Background

The 1994-95 strike shortened the season to 144 games and pushed the official opening of Coors Field to April 26, against the New York Mets. Larry Walker, signed as a free agent on April 8, doubled three times in his Rockies debut, and Dante Bichette won it 11-9 with a walk-off home run in the 14th inning. Bichette, Vinny Castilla, Andres Galarraga and Walker each hit at least 30 home runs, and the four became known as the Blake Street Bombers; the team led the league in runs (785), home runs (200) and batting average (.282) but also allowed the most runs. Baylor was named NL Manager of the Year. In the Division Series the Rockies met the Atlanta Braves, the eventual World Series champions, and lost three games to one, winning Game 3.
