Background
On September 16 the team was 76-72; it then won 14 of its last 15 regular-season games to finish level with the San Diego Padres. The tie-breaker for the Wild Card, played at Coors Field on October 1 and counted as part of the regular season, went 13 innings and four hours 40 minutes; Colorado won 9-8 when Matt Holliday was called safe at the plate on a disputed play. The Rockies then swept the Philadelphia Phillies in the Division Series and the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Championship Series, so they reached the World Series having won 21 of 22 games, a run fans and media called Rocktober. The streak ended against Boston. Holliday won the NL batting title and the NLCS MVP award. The club drew 2,376,250 fans, its best total since 2002.
