Background
In their second season under Bud Black the Rockies had the best road record in club history, 44-38. Losing the tie-breaker sent them to Chicago for the Wild Card Game on October 2, which they won 2-1 in 13 innings: Tony Wolters drove in Trevor Story with a single in the 13th and Scott Oberg struck out the side to finish it. It was the first postseason meeting of the two clubs. With the season's 162nd game, the tie-breaker, the Wild Card Game and Game 1 of the NLDS, Colorado became the first team since the 1922 Phillies to play in four cities against four teams in five days. Milwaukee then won the series 3-0.
