Lore & Background

The Grim Reapers function as an organized body with a clear chain of command known as the Grim Reaper Dispatch. Grim Reapers are spirits tasked to retrieve the souls of the dead; in Book of the Atlantic the Dispatch also has the reports of reanimated corpses investigated. In the Campania incident, Ronald Knox explicitly states he was ordered by this Dispatch to investigate the rising dead, noting that Sebastian Michaelis's actions threatened to obscure the true nature of the event. A Cinematic Record is a soul's record of memories and experiences, represented by a reel of film. Undertaker's Bizarre Dolls are made by appending false footage to the end of a corpse's Cinematic Record.

Reader's Guide

Reapers carry their own weapons; Grell Sutcliff wields a chainsaw. A Cinematic Record stores a being's memories on a reel of film; appending false footage to it is how the Bizarre Dolls are created. During the shipwreck, William T. Spears scolded Grell and Ronald for failing to collect all of the souls from the incident.
