Undertaker
The laughing funeral director who is secretly a seceded Grim Reaper.
Undertaker is a seceded Grim Reaper in Black Butler who worked as a funeral director for normal society. He is a former Aristocrat of Evil and has been an informant to the Phantomhive house since Vincent Phantomhive's time, and is one of Ciel's contacts in London's criminal underworld. His Death Scythe is a large, ornate, customised scythe featuring a skeletal design with thorns.
Lore & Background
In the Luxury Liner arc, adapted as Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic, Undertaker is revealed as a Grim Reaper by his distinctive green eyes and admits to being the mastermind behind the reanimation method the Aurora Society was using; the zombies are his creations, the Bizarre Dolls. The reanimation works by appending false footage to the end of a corpse's Cinematic Record, the soul's record of memories and experiences. He defeats the other Grim Reapers with a Death Scythe disguised as a sotoba, wounds Sebastian through the chest, slices the ship in half and disappears.
Reader's Guide
At Weston College he acted as headmaster until Ciel and Sebastian discovered his identity, and under a contract with the prefects he resurrected Derrick Arden and Vice-Principal Agares as Bizarre Dolls. He eventually reveals that his true objective was to reanimate the body of Ciel's older twin brother, the real Ciel Phantomhive, whom he revived in the Blue Cult Arc.
