Sebastian Michaelis serves as the devoted butler to Ciel Phantomhive, a twelve-year-old Earl operating as the Queen's Watchdog in Victorian-era London. Ciel named the demon Sebastian Michaelis after his deceased dog, Sebastian, once the demon had killed the cultists who held him. In exchange for helping Ciel exact revenge on those who tortured him and murdered his parents, the demon secured a Faustian contract to consume the boy's soul upon completion of that goal. This agreement binds the entity to protect and serve Ciel while hiding his true demonic nature behind impeccable manners.

Sebastian is a demon summoned during a sacrificial ceremony held by the demon-worshipping cult that kept Ciel captive.
