Plot
Casper the Friendly Ghost serves as a guardian ghost to two female Space Police officers, Mini and Maxi, who patrol the Jetsons-style Space City on flying motorcycles in the year 2179. Mini is a ditzy redhead, while Maxi is a more intelligent African-American woman with a very short temper. They are joined by Hairy Scary, a large, shaggy, thousand-year-old ghost with a red nose and big bow tie who enjoys scaring villains but accepts Casper's gentle nature. Their fellow officers Nerdley and Fungo, a pair of bumbling, flying patrol car-driving male chauvinists, constantly try to prove superiority over Mini and Maxi but fail due to their own stupidity and cowardice.
Production
The series was Hanna-Barbera's second attempt to cash in on the popularity of Charlie's Angels and CHiPs, the first being Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels on ABC. Twenty-six 15-minute segments were produced as thirteen 30-minute episodes, along with two television specials: Casper's Halloween Special and Casper's First Christmas. The show contained a laugh track, like many Hanna-Barbera animated series from the 1970s.
