Characters
The show's main character is Penn Zero, voiced by Thomas Middleditch. He works as a part-time hero, following in the footsteps of his parents, who were full-time heroes. Because the villain Rippen trapped them in the "Most Dangerous World Imaginable," Penn lives with his aunt Rose and uncle Chuck. For his missions, Penn teams up with his friends Sashi and Boone, and he can talk to his parents through a device called a MUHU, which stands for Multi-Universe Hologram Uplink. Boone Wiseman, voiced by Adam DeVine, is Penn's friend and a part-time wise man. His odd and confusing methods sometimes frustrate the group, but those same unorthodox ideas often help them succeed. Like Penn, Boone's parents were also part-time heroes. Sashi Kobayashi, voiced by Tania Gunadi, is Penn's friend and a part-time sidekick. She tends to be the calm, reasonable one, and she uses her special glasses to tell the team about their missions. Her parents are ordinary civilians and don't learn about her job until the second-season episode "The Kobayashis." Phyllis, voiced by Sam Levine, is a grumpy, irritable Slavic woman who runs the Multi Universe Transprojector, or MUT, in an old theater called The Odyssey. The episode "Zap One" shows that she picked Penn and his parents to be heroes, and the series finale reveals she is the good half of a being called the Guardian. Rippen, voiced by Alfred Molina, is the main bad guy. He works as a part-time villain and also teaches art at Penn's high school. His goal is to become a full-time villain by pulling off an evil plan without Penn stopping him. The episode "Mr. Rippen" explains he comes from another dimension and was chosen by Phil to be a villain. Larry, voiced by Larry Wilmore, is Rippen's part-time minion and the high school principal. He isn't very evil and stays loyal to Rippen, using glasses like Sashi's to show holographic mission info.
