Engage Kiss is a Japanese mixed-media project created by Aniplex, encompassing a manga series, an anime television series, and a mobile game. The anime, produced by A-1 Pictures and written by Fumiaki Maruto with character designs by Tsunako, aired from July to September 2022. It is notable for its blend of supernatural action and romantic drama set in a futuristic city plagued by demons.

Plot
Bayron City, an artificial island in the Pacific Ocean near Japan, faces a secret demon problem. The city government hires PMCs to combat demon-like monsters called D-Hazards without public knowledge. Shu Ogata runs a small PMC called I&S Office, whose only employee is a centuries-old demon girl named Kisara. Despite her affection for him and her high combat strength, Shu is constantly broke and does little work. He frequently asks his ex-girlfriend Ayano Yugiri for help, though she claims their relationship is over. Shu appears to rely on these two women, but his true goal is to uncover the truth behind a D-Hazard incident that caused his parents and sister to disappear.
Characters
Shu Ogata is the protagonist who runs the small PMC I&S Office. He is often broke due to poor financial management and is an orphan after his parents went missing in an incident before the series. He still has feelings for his first ex-girlfriend, Ayano Yugiri. Kisara is a high school student who is actually a demon girl hundreds of years old, capable of eating people's memories, including Shu's. Ayano Yugiri is Shu's first ex-girlfriend, who still has feelings for him despite their breakup; she is Akino's daughter and a member of AAA Defender Co., and is slightly older than Shu, having met him as children. Sharon Holygrail is Shu's second ex-girlfriend, a nun of the Seiten Church who is secretly an assassin fighting D-Hazards. Kanna Ogata is Shu's younger sister, a part-demon girl freed from an underground area who later fights Kisara and others before living with Shu. Akino Yūgiri is Ayano's mother and chairman of AAA Defender Co., formerly Shu's boss who continues to support him. Miles Morgan is a private military officer Shu saw as a father figure, later possessed by demons. Tetsuya Mikami, Shenhua Hachisuka (deputy mayor and eldest daughter of the mayor), Linhua Hachisuka, and Mikhail Hachisuka are also characters. Chloe Tang comes from a rich family and is the player's first employee at their PMC; she is a calm member of the Rising Sun Military Corps with superhuman combat abilities and a big appetite, having traveled extensively since age 11. Shiho Takenouchi works in administration at the Rising Sun Military Corps, previously doing repetitive tasks at a shady company, but is skilled in accounting. Aoi Kotobuki is also listed.
Media
The series now known as Engage Kiss was first teased under the working title Project Engage, with Fumiaki Maruto and Tsunako attached as key staff. Its full details were later shared at the Aniplex booth during AnimeJapan 2022. A-1 Pictures handled production, with Tomoya Tanaka directing, Shunsaku Yano managing world-building, Shinpei Wada adapting Megumi Katagiri's demon designs for animation, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa composing the score. The show ran on Tokyo MX and other stations from July 3 to September 25, 2022. Halca performed the opening track Everyone, Scramble, while Nanawo Akari performed the ending Love-Brain. Aniplex of America secured the rights for an English simulcast and simuldub on Crunchyroll outside Asia. A manga adaptation by Itachi was serialized in Square Enix's Manga Up! from July 2, 2022, to March 27, 2024. Square Enix also developed a free-to-play action RPG mobile game titled Engage Kill, which was announced on April 24, 2022, opened for pre-registration on June 4, 2022, launched in Japan on March 1, 2023, and shut down on March 21, 2024.
