Career overview

Canapino began racing in 2005 with no prior experience, competing in the Renault Mégane one-make touring car series. He won races in 2006 and secured the championship in 2007. That same year he debuted in TC 2000, and the following year he entered Top Race and TC Pista, a championship prior to Turismo Carretera that he won that year. In 2010 he won both the TC and Top Race Torneo Clausura championships.

Between 2011 and 2017 he claimed all Top Race titles driving a Mercedes-Benz prototype, except for 2015 when Matías Rodríguez won. He won the Súper TC 2000 championship in 2016 and 2021 with the Chevrolet Argentina factory team and was a three-time TC champion from 2017 to 2019 with the Canapino Sport team led by his father. He also participated in a few Stock Car Brasil races. In 2019, Ricardo Juncos invited Canapino to race the 24 Hours of Daytona in DPi alongside Will Owen, René Binder, and Kyle Kaiser, finishing eighth in class; he also raced at Sebring.

Canapino received the Olimpia de Oro in 2018 as the best Argentine sportsman of the year, joining Juan Manuel Fangio as the only racing drivers to win that award, and earned the Olimpia de Plata four times. In October 2022, Juncos Racing announced that Canapino would perform two demonstration runs in Argentina driving a Dallara IR18 IndyCar from the 2022 series, scheduled for November 2022. To prepare, the team entered him in a private IndyCar evaluation test at Sebring.

He was then confirmed as the team's second driver for the full 2023 championship alongside Callum Ilott. Canapino qualified 21st for his IndyCar debut at St. Petersburg and finished 12th, the last classified car on the lead lap. After a mandatory oval rookie test at Texas Motor Speedway, he started the second round 19th and again finished 12th. He left the team after the 2024 Honda Indy Toronto, with a statement from Juncos published on 7 August 2024.
