Facts from the source article.
Creation
The concept derived from the Sea Monkeys product, created in 1957 by Harold von Braunhut and marketed in the 1970s with comic book ads designed by Joe Orlando. Howie Mandel got the idea after his daughter wanted brine shrimp pets, which he also had as a child. Mandel decided it could be bigger than the Ninja Turtles, contacted the Chiodo Brothers, and the show was picked up by CBS. Character designs came from Orlando's ads for von Braunhut.
Plot
The Professor accidentally enlarged three sea monkeys to human size, and plotlines followed their comical ineptness. Aquarius could not keep a secret, Bill feared Imperial style beards, and Dave grew excited at polka music. They occasionally encountered neighbors the Brentwoods, whose daughter Sheila became their best friend. After cancellation, the show was replaced by Beakman's World, with Eliza Schneider playing the lead female role there as well.
