Bear lives in the Big Blue House and cares for his friends Ojo, Tutter, Treelo, otters Pip and Pop, and storyteller Shadow. Their adventures involve solving problems, sharing, cooperating, and developing social and life skills. Each episode opens with a welcome song and Bear detecting a scent in the viewers. A theme such as sleep or Thanksgiving is explored, with songs and jokes, and Shadow often narrates a shadow-puppet segment. The episode closes with Bear and Luna the Moon singing the goodbye song.

Characters

Bear, performed by Noel MacNeal, is the large, kind anthropomorphic bear who serves as caregiver to the other characters; he was designed by Paul Andrejco.
