Plot

The series follows five teenagers—Jake, Marco, Cassie, Rachel, and Tobias—and one alien, Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill (nicknamed "Ax"), who can transform into any animal they touch. Calling themselves the Animorphs, they battle a secret alien infiltration of Earth by parasitic Yeerks, slug-like creatures that enter humans through the ear canal and merge with their brains. The Animorphs fight as a guerrilla force against the Yeerks, led by Visser Three. They protect their identities by letting the Yeerks believe they are an Andalite strike force, the aliens who created the morphing technology. Over time, the Yeerks grow more cautious and dedicate more resources to capturing the "Andalite bandits." The ability has limitations: they can stay in animal form for only two hours, or they cannot return to human form, and they must concentrate to prevent animal instincts from overpowering their human intellect.
