The Final Battle Against the Whisperers shattered the fragile peace of the post-apocalypse during Seasons 9-10, pitting the rebuilding human colonies against a feral cult that worshipped the dead. What began as a cold war of espionage and territorial disputes exploded into open slaughter, culminating in a devastating assault on the Whisperer stronghold. The war ended with Beta's death in the television series.

Lore & Background
The Whisperers, led by the ruthless Alpha, believed that humanity had failed and that survival required adopting the mindset of the dead. They wore walker skins as camouflage and lived among the herds, viewing walkers not as threats but as a resource to be managed. This philosophy stood in direct opposition to the communities rebuilding civilization with laws, families, and hope. The tension exploded when Alpha decapitated twelve residents of the communities and used their heads on pikes to mark her border. After Negan killed Alpha, Beta took command, and the war continued until his death.
Reader's Guide
Alpha's murders of Henry, Tara, Enid and others turn the border into a war. In the comic, Negan joins the Whisperers and kills Alpha; Beta then declares war on the communities, kills Gabriel and is finally shot through the chest by Aaron. On television, Negan also kills Alpha; Beta, now leading the Whisperers, drives a great horde toward the communities, until Daryl stabs him through both eyes and the dead devour him.
