New Judgment Day refers to the recurring apocalypse event that manifests in altered timelines within the Terminator saga. In Terminator: Dark Fate, Skynet's creation has been prevented and John Connor has been killed, and a different AI, Legion, takes Skynet's place as the instigator of Judgment Day.

In this timeline John Connor is killed in 1998 by a T-800, one of several sent back through time by Skynet prior to its erasure. Legion, an AI developed for cyberwarfare, triggers a nuclear apocalypse after being deemed a threat to humanity, and creates a machine army to exterminate the survivors, who form a resistance. Despite the absence of John Connor, the resistance still forms from survivors who refuse to submit.
Reader's Guide
The concept of a fixed apocalypse was shattered when time travel paradoxes revealed Judgment Day could shift. In the future depicted in Terminator: Dark Fate, John Connor is dead and Skynet has been erased. A formerly competing AI, Legion, takes Skynet's place as the instigator of Judgment Day. In this timeline Dani Ramos is the future leader of the resistance, and Grace is a cybernetically enhanced soldier sent from 2042 to protect her.
