Fairy godparents in The Fairly OddParents are fairies who have taken on the job of watching over a miserable human child. A fairy becomes one by going through the Fairy Academy, and is then assigned a godchild whose wishes they grant within the limits of Da Rules.

Background
Ordinary fairies roam Fairy World freely, but fairy godparents are led, trained and assigned by Jorgen Von Strangle, and they have more reality-warping power than other fairies. They cannot break Da Rules even if they want to: a forbidden wish just fizzles with a raspberry noise as the wand goes limp. In public they disguise themselves, usually as a pet or an everyday object that still shows their face and their favourite colour, which is why Cosmo and Wanda often appear as goldfish in Timmy's room. If either side is pushed too far, a godchild and their fairies can give each other up.
