Many people assume the city is named after Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome, but one episode reveals it was named after Dale Dimm, the village idiot of its early days. Many residents jump to conclusions and skip the fine print, which is how the mayor became mayor-for-life without anyone noticing. Its landmarks include the Dimmadome, Dimmsdale Elementary School, Dimmsdale Hospital, Dimmsdale Park, the Yak in the Box restaurant and Mike E. Mozzarella's Pizza Fun House.
