Lore & Background

Afterbirth was the first expansion for Rebirth, announced by Edmund McMillen in February 2015. Besides Greed Mode it added items, enemies, alternate floors and bosses, and endings. The expansion reached Windows, OS X and Linux first and came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 10, 2016; it was not expected on the other platforms of the time because of their hardware limits and the expansion's more complex mechanics.

Reader's Guide

Greed Mode differs from the main game by its focus on money, and enemies come in waves rather than one room at a time. It was one of several additions in Afterbirth alongside new items, enemies, alternate floors, bosses and endings.
