Reception
The Next Tetris received a score of 6.5/10 from IGN for the PlayStation version, while the Dreamcast version scored 8/10. IGN's Anthony Chau called the cascading gameplay an interesting mechanic and praised the industrial menu presentation and soundtrack. Official Dreamcast Magazine's Alex Huhtala dismissed the game as poorly conceived, citing sluggish controls and gameplay tweaks that made it too easy. Ryan Davis of GameSpot described the Next Tetris mode as a novel idea but argued it encouraged sloppy play.
