In Famitsu, reviewers noted that there were still new and enjoyable ways to create a game based on Tetris. Two reviewers highlighted the battle mode as the best element, with one calling it the most fun way to play since the Game Boy release of Tetris. One reviewer praised the visuals of special attacks, while another felt they could be improved in gameplay. One reviewer's main disappointment was that the game remained fundamentally Tetris, and another noted that matches could slightly overstay their welcome.
