Other executive producers included Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, Rich Kleiman, and Samantha Corbin Miller. Apple renewed the series for a second season on June 15, 2022, but canceled it after two seasons on November 30, 2023. Winston Duke was originally cast as the lead in October 2019, but after an on-set injury in February 2020, O’Shea Jackson Jr. took over. Quvenzhané Wallis joined as Crystal in July 2020, and in January 2021, the cast expanded with Isaiah Hill, Shinelle Azoroh, Tristan Mack Wilds, Caleel Harris, Tessa Ferrer, Jason Rivera, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, and James Bingham. For the second season, Orlando Jones and Shannon Brown became series regulars in August 2022, while Christina Jackson and Sean Baker were promoted to regulars. Filming was set to start in October 2019, but Duke’s injury caused a delay for recasting, followed by another pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
