Plot
Richie Rich was a regular kid until his vegetable-to-clean-energy invention made him a trillionaire. He now resides in a mansion with his family, joined by best friends Darcy, who loves to spend his fortune, and Murray, his money manager who pushes for fiscal caution. The household also includes robot maid Irona, his not-so-bright father Cliff, and envious older sister Harper.
Cast
The cast of the 2015 series Richie Rich includes Jake Brennan as the trillionaire child, with Brooke Wexler as his robotic maid Irona. Kiff VandenHeuvel plays Cliff Rich, Richie's naive and unemployed father. Lauren Taylor is Harper Rich, his older sister who envies his success and aims for Harvard. Joshua Carlon portrays Murray, Richie's anxious money manager and best friend. Jenna Ortega plays Darcy, another best friend who secretly spends Richie's money on bad habits. Ysa Penarejo appears as Tulip Steinhoff, Harper's dim but cheerful friend. Nathan Anderson plays Tahj Stokes, a rapper's son with a crush on Harper. Peter Glennon portrays Swedish House Sensation, a former DJ now Richie's personal meatball chef.
Production
The show was produced by AwesomenessTV, which had been acquired by DreamWorks alongside Classic Media, a private-equity company holding dormant intellectual properties including Richie Rich. The TV adaptation was originally intended for YouTube with a matching budget, but Netflix executives visited the set and picked it up a month later. Announced in October 2014 as part of a partnership between Netflix and DreamWorks Animation for 300 hours of original programming, the series gives Richie a self-made fortune from green technology, unlike the comics. Brian Robbins, Tim Pollock, and Jeff Hodsden serve as executive producers and showrunners, with Shauna Phelan and Joe Davola also executive producing.
