Facts from the source article.
Premise
The series follows Pandora, Russ, and Sky Vanderhouven, whose family is cursed because their ancestors pillaged ancient artifacts from around the world. The curse turned father Alex Vanderhouven to stone. After reversing the curse in the first season, the second season finds Alex rejoining the family as they continue returning artifacts. However, something about Alex seems wrong, and the family must solve mysteries both on their travels and within Briarstone Manor.
Production
Apple TV+ ordered the series from DreamWorks Animation Television on September 15, 2023, as part of a fall slate of kids and family programming. The first season has ten 23-minute episodes. Jim Cooper and Jeff Dixon created and executive produced the series; John Krasinski also executive produced, with Allyson Seeger as co-executive producer. Leo Riley served as supervising producer, and Chris Copeland and Justin Copeland as creative consultants.
Reception
Critics praised the series for its clever approach to younger viewers. Brian Kitson noted that while the show's predictable structure works well for children, he himself enjoyed every episode and called it a hit. Sam Stone compared its tone to a blend of Indiana Jones and The Real Ghostbusters, recommending it as a family-friendly Halloween watch. Creator Jeff Dixon revealed that the project was a major departure from DreamWorks' usual style, requiring the studio to overhaul its production pipelines. He described the first season as full of global adventures, eerie caves, unexpected scares, mysterious characters, suspense rare in children's animation, and a creepy atmosphere balanced with humor and heart. The series earned a nomination for Outstanding Animated Series at the 3rd Children's and Family Emmy Awards. Its episode "The Baboon Temple" was nominated for Best Animated Television/Broadcast Production for Children at the 51st Annie Awards. Additional nominations came for Best Youth Programming at the Imagen Foundation Awards and Best Animated Series or TV Movie at the 4th Astra TV Awards.
