Falling Skies

Survivors fight back after an alien invasion devastates Earth.

Last updated

The group is led by retired Colonel Dan Weaver, with history professor Tom Mason as second-in-command.[1] Survivors who have banded together and refer to themselves as the "2nd Mass" are the focus of the series' narrative as they resist an extraterrestrial invasion.[1]

Making and release

TNT placed an order for a pilot episode of an unnamed alien invasion project in 2009, which marked the official start of development for the series created by Robert Rodat.[2] The pilot script was penned by Rodat, based on an idea he and Steven Spielberg developed together; the working title for the project was initially Concord.[3] Spielberg was the one who thought of the name Falling Skies for the series.[3][4] The show's first broadcast on the US cable network TNT occurred on June 19, 2011.[5][6]

During that same year, the series had its international debut across more than 75 nations.[6] A fifth and concluding season, consisting of 10 episodes, was ordered by TNT on July 18, 2014.[5] The final season's broadcast began on June 28, 2015, and its last episode aired on August 30, 2015.[5] Netflix made Falling Skies available for streaming on January 1, 2026.[7]
