Death Wolf began as Devils Whorehouse in 2000, a Misfits/Samhain cover band that soon wrote its own material. Their early releases, including the EP 'The Howling' (2001) and album 'Revelation Unorthodox' (2003), were stylistically close to those covered bands. In March 2011, the group changed its name to Death Wolf, stating that 'the music and philosophy behind the orchestra has outgrown its name.' The name Death Wolf symbolizes 'the strength, dedication and will shown in its creations.'

The first album under the new name, 'Death Wolf' (2011), deals with 'Northern end themes and death hymns.' Their music still pays homage to Glenn Danzig, founder of Misfits and Samhain, though more subtly than on early recordings. The band's sound includes 'high speed metal punk' tracks like 'Sudden Bloodletter' and doom tracks like 'Rothenburg.'

Current members include Martin Gustafsson (vocals), Morgan Håkansson (guitar), Hrafn (drums), and Makko (guitar). Former members include Roger Svensson (bass) and Zwedda (vocals). Live musicians have included Lars Broddesson (drums), Jeff Tandy (bass), and Calle Larsson (drums).
