Lore & Background
Cyhra was assembled in 2017, bringing together musicians from prominent heavy metal bands. The founding lineup included vocalist Jake E, guitarist Jesper Strömblad, drummer Alex Landenburg, and guitarist Euge Valovirta. Bassist Peter Iwers joined initially but left in 2018, after which Strömblad and Valovirta took over bass duties. Marcus Sunesson became a live member in 2018 and a full member in 2020.
The band released their debut studio album Letters to Myself in 2017, followed by No Halos in Hell in 2019, and The Vertigo Trigger in 2023. They have also issued multiple singles, including 'Karma' (2017), 'Heartrage' (2018), and 'Battle from Within' (2019). A live bassist known as 'Mr. ASUS' has performed with the band since 2019.
Reader's Guide
Cyhra represents a convergence of experienced musicians from the European metal scene, blending melodic elements with modern production. Their formation in 2017 brought together figures from In Flames, Amaranthe, and Kamelot, among others, creating a supergroup that has maintained a consistent output of studio albums and singles. The band's style, described as modern melodic metal, has allowed them to carve a niche within the broader heavy metal landscape. Their discography, spanning from 2017 to 2026, shows sustained activity, and their lineup has remained largely stable, with only one former member (Peter Iwers) and the addition of Marcus Sunesson. The use of a live bassist since 2019 indicates a flexible approach to touring. Cyhra's significance lies in their ability to unite musicians from different metal subgenres into a cohesive project, producing a series of albums that reflect their collective experience.
