Assassin's Creed Identity
First Assassin's Creed mobile game with full 3D gameplay.
Assassin's Creed Identity was an action-adventure game from Ubisoft Blue Byte, published by Ubisoft. As a spin-off of the Assassin's Creed series, its story is set between 1501 and 1506, overlapping with the events of both Assassin's Creed II (1476–1499) and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (1499–1507). Players control a customizable Assassin called Lo Sparviero—Italian for "The Sparrowhawk"—who completes missions across Italy to undermine the Templar Order, which is controlled by the Borgia family. The main plot centers on the Assassins fighting a mysterious group known as "the Crows," who can perfectly copy their abilities and techniques.
The game first appeared in 2014 as a free-to-play title in New Zealand and Australian app stores. It launched worldwide on iOS on 25 February 2016, and an Android version followed on 18 May 2016. Identity was the first mobile entry in the series to feature a full 3D world and third-person traversal gameplay like the main console games. Its online services were shut down in October 2021, and it was removed from all digital stores in September 2021, one month before the shutdown.
Set in the Italian Renaissance at the start of the 16th century, the game includes locations from Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, such as Rome, Florence, and Monteriggioni. A separate DLC chapter added Forlì on 18 May 2016. The gameplay mirrors the main console titles: players control an Assassin from a third-person perspective, perform parkour by running toward climbable surfaces, and blend into crowds or structures by pressing the action button or moving into blendable objects—though blending only works when the Assassin is at Alerted status or lower. Assassinations happen by tapping the action button when a guard displays a Hidden Blade icon. In combat, players can attack, block, use skills, or flee, though some skills are unavailable during fights, and escaping has a cooldown.
The Assassin begins at Anonymous status, where normal guards ignore him. If the Assassin breaks a hostile guard's line of sight or acts suspiciously, he enters Alerted status, where guards watch closely but do not attack. During fights or when fleeing, the Assassin reaches Wanted status, causing all guards to attack on sight. Status can be lowered by breaking line of sight for a while or by blending.

Lore & Background
The game is set during the Italian Renaissance at the beginning of the 16th century, featuring locations from Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, including Rome, Florence, and Monteriggioni. Forlì was added as DLC on 18 May 2016. Players control a customizable Assassin named Lo Sparviero (Italian for 'The Sparrowhawk') and carry out missions to weaken the Templar Order led by the Borgia family. The main storyline involves a conflict with a mysterious organization called 'the Crows', who can perfectly mimic Assassin skills and techniques.
The plot begins in Florence in 1501 as Lo Sparviero escapes guards after an assassination. Later, in Monteriggioni, he kills Borgia mercenaries disguised as tax collectors, but learns they were a distraction while someone stole a hidden chest from the Villa Auditore. Lo Sparviero recovers the chest from the thief Pietro de Galencia, a Templar spy, and finds letters from Cesare Borgia. In 1506, Lo Sparviero stops a man in black-feathered armor from killing Leonardo da Vinci. The chest is later found to contain blueprints for the original Hidden Blade with a crow's head carved in it. A man named Demetrio reveals he was forced by Cesare to build replica blades called 'Corvix Blades' for a secret organization called the Crows, trained by a Spanish Assassin named Raphael Sánchez. The Assassins later learn of a leader called Il Corvo ('The Crow') and ally with a weapons merchant named Sirus Favero.
Reader's Guide
Assassin's Creed Identity holds significance as a pioneering mobile entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, being the first to deliver a full 3D environment and third-person traversal gameplay on iOS and Android. Its free-to-play model, initially soft-launched in New Zealand and Australia in 2014, preceded a worldwide release in 2016. The game featured four character classes—Berserker, Shadow Blade, Trickster, and Thief—each with unique skills and perks, and allowed extensive customization through equipment, outfits, and a forge system. Missions included Campaign missions advancing the storyline and Contract missions as side objectives. The game's online services were shut down in October 2021, and it was removed from digital storefronts two months later, marking the end of its availability. Its legacy lies in demonstrating the viability of console-style Assassin's Creed gameplay on mobile devices, though its eventual delisting limits modern access.
