Q Continuum

The Q Continuum is an extra-dimensional plane of existence in Star Trek inhabited by the race of beings known as the Q; the term can also mean the Q society itself. The Q are immortal, though not absolutely omniscient or omnipotent, and can alter, create or destroy virtually any form of matter or energy and affect time as they choose. Their society was highly ordered but virtually stagnant, and after the Q called Quinn was granted asylum by Kathryn Janeway and ended his own life in 2372, the Continuum was plunged into a destructive civil war between the "Freedom Faction" and the traditional Q.
