Trill
The joined species of Jadzia Dax, host and symbiont.
The Trill are a species in Star Trek, best known through Jadzia Dax of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, a joined Trill. "Jadzia" is the young Trill woman and "Dax" is the slug-like symbiont living in her abdomen.

Background
When the Deep Space Nine producers created Jadzia, they chose a Trill as first seen in the form of Odan in the Next Generation episode "The Host".
The make-up made for Jadzia was used for every Trill afterwards: lines of dark spots running from the temples down both sides of the head, neck and body. Michael Piller said a Trill seemed a very good idea at the time but proved the hardest character to define.
