Dominion
The Gamma Quadrant empire ruled by the shapeshifting Founders.
The Dominion is an interstellar state and military power in the Gamma Quadrant, made up of hundreds of subject species. It is ruled by the Founders, a race of shapeshifters also called Changelings, who created it and make all of its strategic decisions.

Background
The Founders engineered two species to run it: the Vorta, clones who serve as field commanders, administrators, scientists and diplomats, and the Jem'Hadar, its soldiers and one of the strongest military forces in the galaxy at the Dominion's height. Member peoples also include the Son'a, Karemma, Dosi, Breen and Cardassians.
The Changelings founded the Dominion between two thousand and ten thousand years before the events of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as a way of defending themselves. Little is shown of its inner workings beyond the military role of the Jem'Hadar and the administrative role of the Vorta.
