1996 William DeWitt Jr Ownership
The DeWitt era of Cardinals ownership.
After Gussie Busch died in 1989, the Anheuser-Busch brewery ran the Cardinals until March 1996, when it sold the team for $147 million to a partnership headed by Drew Baur, Hanser and William DeWitt Jr. The DeWitt era has run from 1996 to the present and includes World Series titles in 2006 and 2011. Forbes valued the club at $820 million in 2014 and $1.9 billion in 2018. In June 2026, DeWitt announced that his son, Bill DeWitt III, would become chief executive officer.
