1946 Stan Musial Post-War Era
Stan Musial and the Cardinals' golden era of the 1940s.
In the 1940s a golden era emerged as Branch Rickey's farm system produced players such as Stan Musial, Enos Slaughter, Marty Marion, Red Schoendienst and Mort and Walker Cooper. Under Billy Southworth the Cardinals won the World Series in 1942 and 1944, and they won again in 1946, when Slaughter's "Mad Dash" decided Game 7 against the Boston Red Sox. Musial is regarded as the most consistent hitter of his era and the most accomplished player in team history, with three MVP awards and seven batting titles; a statue of him stands outside Busch Stadium.
